The Characteristics of Christians, Our confession of faith.

The members of the true confession of faith are called Christians, which means followers of Christ. The disciples of Jesus were first called Christians in Antioch.

Acts 11:26 and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came to pass, that for a whole year they were gathered together with them in the assembly, and taught a great multitude: and it was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians by divine providence.

Part One

We love one another and we love our neighbors.

John 13:34,35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

We help people to know God.

1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Exodus 6:3 I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty, but I did not make myself known to them by my name, Jehovah.

The name of God is important in the New Testament too

Matthew 6:9 ''hallowed be thy name...''

In the ancient Hebrew manuscripts, only consonants were used, and the name of God was written with the letters Yhvh. We do not know the exact pronunciation of the ancient Hebrew, but this is no reason not to use the native dialects. The most common form of the name of God in English is Jehovah or Jahveh. For example, the name Jesus is used by every people in their own dialect (Isa, Iesus, Gesu, Jesus, Iisus, Isus, etc.), but in Hebrew it was presumably Jesú. According to today's academic source, in the first century B.C. there was already an example of the Aramaic name Yeshua being transliterated as Iesus. Thus, when Paul and the evangelists refer to Jesus – Yeshu/a –, they use the already established Greek equivalent, the name Iesus, with an “s” sound at the end.

We acknowledge that there is only one God. We worship only one God.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel! Jehovah is our God. There is only one, Jehovah.

1 Corinthians 8:6 For to us there is in fact only one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom are all things; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and for whom we exist.

The first and most important commandment of Christians is closely related to the belief in one God.

Mark 12:28-31 Then one of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, “Which is the first of all the commandments?” Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: Jehovah is our God. He alone, Jehova. You shall love Jehovah your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

We believe that eternal life is to know God and Jesus Christ.

John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Our Leader is Jesus Christ.

Matthew 23:10 Neither be called ‘leaders,’ for your Leader is one, the Christ.

The congregation has no human leaders, only overseers (or elders) and ministers. The congregation does not have a human “Governing Body,” as the Bible says. Under Jesus’ leadership, congregations are able to elect overseers and operate independently.

Instead of Judas Iscariot, who became unfaithful, Jehovah chose Matthias by lot to be the 12th apostle.

(Acts 1:15-26) After that, the dead apostles were not replaced, nor were new apostles appointed, nor was there ever, nor is there now a need for this.

There is no apostolic succession among Christians.

The last apostle, John, reveals in Revelation 1:20 that the overseers (angels) of the congregation are directly held in the hand of Jesus.

Revelation 1:20 As for the sacred secret of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars mean the angels of the seven congregations, and the seven lampstands mean seven congregations.

We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and the counsel of the Bible.

Jesus is the key to salvation, meaning that there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we can be saved.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me.

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

We acknowledge that it is not membership in a church, organization, or community that will save us. Anyone who teaches such things is trying to take the place of Christ, the antichrist.

We accept the Bible as the word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16,17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

We do not follow all the teachings of the Mosaic law.

The apostles teach us to keep only those things which are found in the law of Christ.

Colossians 2:14 And hath blotted out the handwriting of ordinances against us, which was contrary to us; and hath taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.

Romans 7:4 Therefore, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, so that we might bear fruit for God.

1 Corinthians 9:21 To those without law I became like one without law (though I am not without law to God but under law to Christ), so that I might win those without law.

Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

We recognize that the ultimate authority lies with Jehovah our God.

In the congregations, there is no sub or over. Among the early Christians, Paul rebuked Peter. Above everyone

is Christ. Whoever teaches that he is above us, because, for example, God has appointed him over us and therefore has the right to give us instructions. Then we know that he wants to take the place of Christ, and therefore he is antichrist.

1 Corinthians 11:3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of Christ is God.

Jesus also acknowledged that the Father is greater than he.

John 14:28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

Jehovah always existed and always will exist.

Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says Jehovah God, “the One who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Habakkuk 1:12 O Jehovah, are you not from eternity, my God, my Holy One? That is why we do not die! O Jehovah, you have raised up this people (the Chaldeans) to execute your judgments; You, my rock, raised them up to execute your punishment through them.

The only-begotten Son of God, Jesus, existed before he became a man.

Colossians 1:14, 15

By him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation;

He was the firstborn of all creation, having a beginning, but God always existed. He is also called the only-begotten, because God alone created him.

The only-begotten Son of God was born before the visible material world came into being.

Revelation 3:14

And to the angel of the assembly in Laodicea write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:

Proverbs 8:22-31

Jehovah himself created me as the beginning of his way, the beginning of his work from of old. I have been in my place from time immemorial, from the beginning, from the days before the earth. When there were no deeps, I was brought forth as in labor, when there were no fountains abounding in water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills I was brought forth as in labor, when he had not yet made the earth, the open space, nor the first grains of the dust of the fruitful field. When he prepared the heavens, I was there; when he marked out the face of the deep. When he established the clouds above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he gave the sea its boundary, that the waters should not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him as a master worker; he delighted in me day by day, and I rejoiced before him at all times, rejoicing in the fruitful field of his land; and my delight was with the sons of men.

John 6:38

For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

John 3:13

Furthermore, no man has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.

Jesus sacrificed his life for us, and Jehovah resurrected him three days later.

This also shows that Jesus was not God and never will be God, for according to Habakkuk 1:12, God cannot die, but Jesus was dead.

1 Corinthians 15:14 And if Christ has not been raised up, then our preaching is in vain, and our faith is in vain.

The holy spirit is Jehovah’s creative and active force, which he uses to accomplish his purpose.

Genesis 1:2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the spirit of God (ruach) was hovering over the face of the waters.

Jehovah has the greatest power and authority, and he rules over all by his holy spirit

1 Chronicles 29:12 Of you come the riches and the glory, and you rule over all; in your hand is power and might, and your hand is able to make great and strong.

The Bible does not say that a person or an angel or Jehovah can be present in more than one place at the same time, but the holy spirit can be present in more than one place at the same time.

The holy spirit belongs to Jehovah. Jehovah directs the holy spirit. The holy spirit can cause anything. The holy spirit can be a stormy wind, a fire, or a hailstorm. The holy spirit can do anything, including healing. The holy spirit can also be a voice that only the one to whom Jehovah sends it can hear. It can give us comfort or guidance. Jehovah showed his active force, or holy spirit, to Elijah when he was being persecuted.

1 Kings 19:11, 12

Then he said: “Go out and stand on the mountain before Jehovah.” And, look! Jehovah was passing by, and a great and strong wind was tearing the mountains apart and breaking the rocks before Jehovah. (Jehovah was not in the wind.) After the wind an earthquake. (Jehovah was not in the earthquake.) After the earthquake a fire. (Jehovah was not in the fire.) And after the fire a calm, low voice.

We do not believe that the holy spirit is a person.

The holy spirit does not have a name. It never appeared in human form, but it came upon Jesus in the form of a dove. The holy spirit can be present in more than one place at the same time, but persons cannot. We cannot even place it as a person in worship, for the Bible nowhere teaches that the holy spirit is less than, greater than, or equal to God or to anyone else. When Stephen saw heaven, he said: “Look! I see the heavens opened up and the Son of man standing at God’s right hand.” (Acts 7:56) Stephen did not see the holy spirit.

I have tried to support the rejection of the Trinity doctrine with Bible verses that have not been disputed so far.

Now we will present some Bible verses, sometimes incorrectly translated, that have been used to support the Trinity doctrine. The Bible verses are quoted according to the correct translation.

Isaiah 9:6 according to the Septuagint, and the most ancient Greek manuscripts, correctly reads: (without the word ”god”) (in some translations Isaiah 9:5)

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called The angel of great counsel: for I will give peace to princes by him, peace and prosperity to them.

Isaiah 9:6 (according to the Hebrew text) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Pele-joez el-gibber, and Abi-ad-shar-shalom: 6 Of the increase of the government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts shall perform this.

In 1 John 5:7, some translations include an extra sentence that is not in the oldest manuscripts.

1 John 5:7,8 correctly (Simon Tamás László translation):

Therefore there are three who testify: the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and the three agree in their testimony.

1 Timothy 3:16 correctly (Revised New Translation 2014)

(The oldest manuscripts do not use the word “God,” but instead use “who.”)

Indeed, great is the mystery of godliness: who was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, received up in glory.

John 1:1 is no longer supported by written evidence, but the correct translation is presumably: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Son was the Word.
