Who is the Son of God (Matthew 16:13-16)? The heavenly descent of our Lord Jesus
This article is for my Christian and Muslim friends.
He is the most important being in the universe, after the Father. To properly understand this aspect of his personality, we must strictly adhere to his teaching. It should not be made bigger or smaller than it was, is and always will be.
To understand what the Bible says about the Son, we must unite with his teaching, not go to the left or to the right of him.
This is true faith: stand by what he said.
John 8:31 And he said to the Jews who believed in him: If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples;
32. And you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”.
If the Son of God has made it clear that He came down from heaven, how can some come and deny, yet boast that they are Christians?
John 6:38 38. For I did not come down from heaven to do My will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
He was, is, and always will be, after the Father, the most important being in the universe.
He made it clear that the Father is greater than the Son. How can some come and deny this, yet boast that they are Christians?
John 14:28. You have heard that I said to you: I will go and return to you. If you had loved Me, you would have been glad that I said to you: "I am going to the Father"; for the Father is greater than I.
Anyone who does not believe this is not a true believer.
Whoever misinterprets these two truths will also misinterpret the other.
Anyone who claims that the Father is not greater than the Son, or who claims that the Son did not exist in heaven and did not come down from heaven as the incarnate Son of God, is wrong.
God calls us to true faith. We either believe everything or we let everything go. God accepts only true faith.
The Bible tells us specifically who the Son of God is.
The Son is the firstborn of God, whose birth is from the being of God the Father. So it has a heavenly beginning, not just an earthly beginning.
Before there were angels and the universe, God took His Son out of His being.
Biblical evidence for this
"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." Colossians 1:15
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Son (of God) was the Word.
He was with God in the beginning.
All things were made through him; and nothing was made without it. John 1:1-3
- And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us - and we saw His glory, as the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
And I saw His glory as the glory of the only begotten of the Father. John 1:14
- He who is the mirror of his glory and the imprint of his being, and who keeps all things by the word of his power, cleansed the transgressors and sat down at the right hand of the Most High in the highest places, Hebrews 1:3 .
The Son Himself testified that He had God the Father.
"Touch me not," said Jesus, "for I have not yet ascended to my Father."
But go to my brothers and tell them that I ascend to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. John 20:17
This is the true identity of the Son who came down from heaven as the Messenger of God the Father.
John 3:13. No one has ascended into heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.
4. I glorified you on earth: I did the work you entrusted me with.
5. And now, Father, glorify me to Yourself with the glory that was with You before the world was.
Yes, the Son is unique, being in dignity between God the Father and the holy angels. No angel was, is, and never will be like him.
